Does insurance cover hair transplants?
No — hair restoration for pattern baldness is classified as cosmetic and is paid out of pocket.
Pattern hair loss is not treated as a medical necessity by health insurers, so surgery to address it falls outside standard coverage in essentially all cases.
Narrow exceptions exist where restoration is reconstructive rather than cosmetic: hair loss following burns, physical trauma or scalp injury, and some scarring conditions. Certain policies also address hair restoration as part of gender-affirming care. Whether any of these apply is a question for your insurer, in writing, before you plan anything around it.
