Do people regret hair transplants?

Some do — and when they do, it is usually a planning failure rather than a surgical one.

Satisfaction is generally high when the procedure is well planned and performed by a qualified physician. Regret clusters around a few recognisable causes, and almost all of them are decisions made before the first graft was placed.

The common ones: a hairline set too low for a face that will keep ageing; donor over-harvesting that leaves the back of the head patchy; operating into loss that was still moving, so the transplant becomes an island; and poor growth from high-volume clinics where the surgery was delegated.

There is also a temporary version. Around weeks two to eight the transplanted hair sheds and some native hair can shed with it, so month one often looks worse than the day before surgery. That phase resolves, and knowing about it in advance prevents most of the panic.
