Combining FUE And PRP
Why the two are usually planned together rather than chosen between, and what each contributes.
Surgery and PRP get presented as competing purchases. In a coherent plan they are sequential and complementary, because they act on different tissue.
A transplant places DHT-resistant follicles into areas where the originals have stopped producing usable hair. It is the only option that puts hair where there is currently none. What it does nothing about is the native hair immediately surrounding the grafts, which still carries full genetic sensitivity and continues to miniaturise.
That surrounding hair is what determines whether the result still looks good in five years. Grafts persisting while everything around them thins produces a visible island — the specific failure mode that makes a transplant obvious in a way it was not at month eighteen.
PRP is one of the tools aimed at that surrounding hair, alongside medication. It uses platelets concentrated from your own blood to support follicles that are miniaturising but still active. It cannot repopulate bald scalp, and its effects last as long as it is maintained.
Practically, that means the plan has two halves running on different timescales. The surgical half is a day plus twelve to eighteen months of assessment. The medical half is ongoing, indefinitely, and is what protects the investment.
The sequencing question is worth asking explicitly at consultation: if loss is still moving quickly, the medical half may need to come first — occasionally for a year or more — before anyone should be moving grafts into an actively receding pattern.
