Parking

There is parking at the building itself — worth knowing given how long a procedure day actually takes.

Route 83 does the whole job. It runs north-south through the western suburbs and passes within a block of the practice at 22nd Street, so there is no expressway merge and no toll on this trip at all. It is the route we most often describe over the phone, because it is the one that is hardest to get wrong.

Cook County patients reach us from the near-west suburbs, and the trip is almost always shorter than expected — the county line sits a few miles east of the practice. It is worth knowing because the twelve-to-eighteen month follow-up schedule is what decides whether a result is assessed properly, and that schedule only works if getting here is unremarkable.

Why treat this locally

The follow-up is the point.

The reason we keep returning to follow-up rather than technique: the surgical day is the part that is most similar between clinics, and the twelve months afterwards is the part that is not. From Riverside, those twelve months are a series of short drives.

At this distance the follow-up schedule stops being a logistical question at all. Grafts shed at two to four weeks, regrowth starts somewhere around months three to six, and the result is judged at twelve to eighteen months — and every one of those checkpoints is a short drive rather than a day out.

What we do

Two procedures, for Riverside patients as for everyone else.

The part most clinics skip

Your donor area is finite.

Most of the regret we hear about traces back to the same decision: a hairline placed too low, too early, using donor hair that was needed later. The safe lifetime supply is finite — published guidance puts it around four to eight thousand follicular units — and the plan has to be built backwards from that number.

Sometimes the right answer is to wait, or to stabilise medically first. If your loss is still moving quickly, operating into it is how people end up with an island of transplanted hair and a gap opening behind it. That is a real outcome of a consultation here, and it is not a lost sale.

Riverside questions

Most people take a few days. The recipient area is visibly pink and crusted in the first week, so the honest answer depends on how public your work is rather than on how you feel, which is usually fine within a day or two.

Then we will say so. For a meaningful share of the people who ask about surgery, the right first move is stabilising the loss medically — sometimes for a year or more. Hearing that is a legitimate outcome of a consultation here.

Photographs of your hairline from five and ten years ago, a list of any medication you take, and any quote you have been given elsewhere — particularly an overseas one. We will tell you honestly what we make of the plan.

Transplanted hairs shed at about two to four weeks, which alarms people who were not warned. Regrowth begins around three to six months, and final density is judged at twelve to eighteen months. Anyone showing you a finished result at week two is showing you something else.
